Introduction
The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is responsible for the continued success of American athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In order to support this mission, the Board of Directors for the USOPC oversees all aspects of the organization, including fundraising, training, athlete selection, and more.
The Board is made up of 15 members, including the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Athletes’ Advisor. The remaining members are appointed by the USOPC’s membership organizations, which include the president or designee of each National Governing Body (NGB) for an Olympic or Paralympic sport. These NGB representatives make up approximately half of the Board. The other half consists of public members who are not affiliated with any specific sport.
USA Surfing is one of 49 NGBs represented on the USOPC Board. As such, its president or designee holds one vote on all policy and organizational decisions made by the Board.
The current president of USA Surfing is Glenn Minami. He was elected in October 2018 and his term will last through December 2020.
The USA Olympic Surf Team’s Board of Directors
The USA Olympic Surf Team’s Board of Directors is made up of five members, all of whom are athletes in the sport of surfing. The team is made up of two men and three women, all of whom are from different parts of the United States.
The board is responsible for the management and operation of the team, as well as for its finances. They are also responsible for selecting the team’s members, and for ensuring that they are properly trained and prepared for competition.
The USA Olympic Surf Team’s Board of Directors is currently composed of:
-Kelly Slater: Kelly is a nine-time world champion surfer from Cocoa Beach, Florida. He has been on the board since 2002.
-Lisa Andersen: Lisa is a four-time world champion surfer from Huntington Beach, California. She has been on the board since 2006.
-Kai Lenny: Kai is a big wave surfer from Maui, Hawaii. He has been on the board since 2014.
-Shaun White: Shaun is a snowboarder and skateboarder from Carlsbad, California. He has been on the board since 2016.
-Mick Fanning: Mick is a three-time world champion surfer from Tweed Heads, Australia. He has been on the board since 2018.

The USASurfTeam is currently made up of 12 athletes, 4 coaches, and 4 support staff members. The team is led by Olympic Head Coach Pete Accardo and His Asst. Head Coach Sean Mattison. The team trains and competes together year-round in preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
