Surfboard types
Choosing the right surfboard is essential to having an enjoyable and safe surfing experience. The three most common types of surfboards are longboards, shortboards, and stand-up paddle boards. Longboards are the original type of surfboard and are great for beginners. Shortboards are great for experienced surfers who want to catch waves more quickly. Stand-up paddle boards are great for all levels of surfers and are becoming more popular.
Longboards
The longboard, often called a cruiser, is the original surfboard. It is generally 9 feet long or longer and 22 inches to 24 inches wide. It has a rounded nose and is usually quite thick, which makes it stable and easy to paddle. It is also easy to catch waves on a longboard, which makes it a great board for beginners. However, longboards are also great for experienced surfers who want to cruise or do longboard surfing tricks like walk the nose or hang ten.
Shortboards
Shortboards are the most common type of surfboard, and they are typically between 5 and 7 feet long. They have a rounded nose and a tapered tail, which makes them more maneuverable than other types of boards. Shortboards are best for experienced surfers who want to perform tricks and maneuvers.
SUPs
There are generally two types of SUPs: all-around boards and race/touring boards. All-around boards are the most popular and versatile type of SUP. They’re great for beginners because they’re stable and easy to maneuver. They can be used for a variety of activities, including surfing, yoga, fishing, and even SUP racing. Race/touring boards are designed for speed and long-distance paddling. They’re narrower and longer than all-around boards, which makes them more efficient in the water but less stable. If you’re interested in SUP racing or paddling long distances, a race/touring board is the way to go.
GoPro types
Surfboards are one of the most popular types of boards to mount your GoPro on. They are easy to find, relatively inexpensive, and provide a great deal of stability. You can find GoPro surfboards at most retailers that sell GoPro products.
GoPro Hero Session
The GoPro Hero Session is a go-anywhere, do-anything point-of-view (POV) camera. That means that it’s great for shooting video while surfing, snowboarding, biking, skateboarding, or engaging in any other outdoor activity where a traditional video camera would be impractical.
The GoPro Hero Session is a small, square camera that weighs just under 4 ounces. It’s waterproof up to 33 feet (10 meters), and it has a removable battery and microSD card. The camera has two buttons: a power/mode button on the front, and a shutter/select button on the side.
The GoPro Hero Session is compatible with all Go Pro mounts, so you can attach it to your surfboard, helmet, handlebars, or whatever else you can think of.
GoPro Hero 4
The GoPro Hero 4 is one of the most popular types of GoPro cameras, and for good reason. It’s small, lightweight, and easy to use, making it the perfect camera for action sports like surfing. Plus, with its advanced video and photo capabilities, it’s great for capturing all your best waves – from first-timers to double-overhead barrels.
If you’re looking to buy a GoPro Hero 4 or already have one, here’s how to mount it on your surfboard so you can start capturing all your waves in stunning HD:
First, you’ll need a few things:
– Your GoPro Hero 4 camera
– A GoPro surfboard mount (we recommend the GoPole Bobber)
– A microSD card (for storing your photos and videos)
Once you have all of your gear, follow these steps to mount your GoPro on your surfboard:
1. Attach the GoPro surfboard mount to your board using the included adhesive pads. Make sure the mount is firmly attached and will not come off while you’re surfing.
2. Insert your microSD card into the GoPro Hero 4. This is where your photos and videos will be stored.
3. Power on the GoPro Hero 4 and select “Video” mode. This will ensure that you capture video footage of your waves rather than just photos. You can also select “Photo” mode if you prefer to take photos instead of videos, or switch between the two modes as desired.
4. Aim the GoPro Hero 4 at whatever you want to capture – whether that’s yourself riding a wave, or simply the wave itself breaking from afar. Use the camera’s viewfinder or LCD screen to help position the camera properly.
5. When you’re ready, hit record and start surfing! The GoPro Hero 4 will automatically start capturing footage as soon as you start moving.
6. To stop recording at any time, simply hit the record button again – even while in the middle of riding a wave! Your video (or photo) will be automatically saved to your microSD card so you can watch it later on your computer or TV
Mounting your GoPro
Mounting your GoPro on your surfboard is a great way to capture your waves without having to worry about holding on to your camera. There are a few different ways that you can mount your GoPro, but we recommend using the adhesive mounts. These mounts are easy to use and will keep your GoPro secure while you’re surfing.
FCS Plug Mount
This mount is ideal for mounting your GoPro to your surfboard. It’s a simple, durable and reliable way to get great shots while surfing. The FCS Plug Mount features a GoPro mount that plugs into the standard FCS fin sockets on your surfboard. It’s easy to install and remove, and it’s compatible with all GoPro camera models.
Bodyboard Mount
The Bodyboard Mount is the most popular mount for surfing. It gives you a great view of the wave and the surfer, and is very stable. You can also get some great action shots with this mount.
To mount your GoPro using the Bodyboard Mount, you will need to affix the mount to your bodyboard using the included adhesive pads. Once the mount is in place, you can then attach your GoPro using the mounting screw. Make sure that the GoPro is securely attached to the mount before heading out into the waves!
Surfboard Traction Pad
mounting your GoPro to your surfboard with a traction pad is one of the most secure and stable ways to get great footage while riding waves. A traction pad is a piece of rubber or foam that covers the deck of your surfboard and provides grip for your feet. Most pads will have a couple of raised kicktail sections that you can use to mount your GoPro.
To mount your GoPro using a traction pad, simply peel the adhesive backing off of the mounts and stick them to the kicktails on the traction pad. Once the mounts are in place, you can attach your GoPro cameras using the thumb screws. When mounted correctly, your GoPro will be level with the deck of your board and pointing straight ahead, giving you a great view of all the action.
If you want to get a different perspective, you can also try mounting your GoPro upside down on the nose of your board. This will give you a view of the waves as they approach, and it’s especially great for getting footage of airs and other radical maneuvers. Just be sure to use an extra mount or two to keep your camera securely in place, as noses tend to be much narrower than tails.
